Jeff Johnson, Focus on the Family‘s Culture and Policy Analyst joins us to discuss concerns about attacks on churches across the nation, which clocked in at over 400 in 2024. These attacks serving as a significant threat to religious freedom in the U.S., underlining the need for stronger protection for houses of worship. Genevieve Wood with Focus on the Family and the Daily Signal, reflects on how James Dobson—a towering figure in the Christian conservative movement—shaped not just her worldview, but her personal journey. While many millennials recount painful memories of “purity culture” and institutions like Focus on the Family, Wood shares a different perspective. She credits Dobson’s enduring message of traditional family values with helping her pursue what she describes as the “success sequence”: finishing school, entering the workforce, marrying before having children—a formula she believes fostered both stability and fulfillment. Additionally, Wood takes aim at critics like the Southern Poverty Law Center, who’ve labeled institutions Dobson founded (e.g., the Family Research Council, Alliance Defending Freedom) as “hate groups.” She sees this as an intolerant overreach that undermines the positive influence these entities had on her life and many others.
