Mike is a Senior Advisor for Government Relations at The Heritage Foundation. He doesn’t pull any punches when talking about why progressives in this country object to securing the border. Mike said, “The opposition from the Democrat party to border security it’s an ideological thing, and it’s religious almost for them. In the absence of a large religious element in their party, they have found fervent belief in the notion that borders are bad and that nationalistic thinking and taking care of our own country first is, in effect, a racist thing. The reason why it’s got to this point is because the intellectual and financial elite of the Democratic Party recognized that it is illegal immigration on a massive scale helps them form a permanent voting coalition because people are dependent on the government and those people dependent on the government are more likely to be Democrats and vote for Democrats.”

Heritage’s mission is to formulate and promote public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense. https://www.heritage.org/.

The question of whether there is a constitutional right to seek an abortion—at any stage, in any pregnancy, or for any reason was brought to the forefront of American politics, public policy, and law as US Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s draft opinion on Dobbs v. Ethel Maharg, Executive Director of the Right to Life Committee of New Mexico and candidate for the Republican nomination for New Mexico governor, brings her perspective on the issue(s) to ABQ Connect. Abby Williams, KLYT Producer, adds questions from the perspective of a Gen Z citizen.  Ethel said, “Roe vs. Wade is going to be overturned whether they like it or not.”
